Welcome Letter for New Members
We are pleased that you have decided to join Aylsham Tennis Club and wish to extend you a warm welcome. This letter provides you with useful information about the Club and its facilities.
Access to the Courts
You have been provided with a key and shoe tag for the 2018/2019 season. The key opens the gate to the courts and the club hut. For security reasons would you make sure that the club hut and courts are locked if you are the last person to leave.
Inside the club hut there is a key (on a hook on right hand end wall) which will give you access to the toilets – these are located through the far end door which leads into the Bowls Club grounds. We would ask you to make sure that you leave the facilities clean and tidy.
Please wear your shoe tag at all times as this shows that you are a member of the Club.
Inside the Club Hut
There is a fridge with drinks available for purchase. Payment is made by placing your money in the honesty box on top of the fridge. An honesty box system is also used for payment of visitors’ fees (£3 per person per hour). Would you ensure that you collect visitors’ fees when playing with a non-member or, better still, encourage them to join so that they can benefit from one of the best membership rates in the county!
The club hut also contains a first aid kit and instant ice packs. Remember that it is important that any accidents are recorded in the accident book.
Use of Courts
As a member of Aylsham Tennis Club you have unlimited use of the courts. The only additional charge is for floodlights and these cost £6 per court per hour. Tokens are available from the Club Coach or can be purchased from The Black Boys in the centre of Aylsham.
Please note that courts cannot be booked at present for general play but a calendar showing court use for coaching, matches and club nights is available on the Club’s website (www.aylshamtennisclub.co.uk). Peak times for play (when the courts are at capacity) are usually summer term time weekday evenings between 6.00 pm and 8.30pm.
Club members and visitors who have paid to use the courts are covered for public liability insurance.
Club Sessions & Coaching Programme
We run club sessions for all student and adult members from 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the year and Saturday mornings from 10.00 am – 12.00 pm, all of which are FREE of charge for members. Tennis balls are provided during these sessions.
We have a coaching programme running throughout the year and members are able to benefit from a discount on fees. Please refer to the Club’s website for further details or contact the Club Coach, Rachael Goldson at email@example.com or 07979093688.
Club Social Events
Social events are run throughout the year. Details of these are sent by email and also posted on our website and Twitter account (@Aylshamtennis) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/AylshamTennis/) so we do advise that you check these on a regular basis.
There are opportunities for members to represent the Club in matches. Aylsham Tennis Club is entered into the men’s and women’s City League and North Norfolk League (which includes mixed doubles play). For more details about match selection and match play please speak to the Team Captains, Sarah van Poortvliet (ladies’ A team, Sally Homfray-Davies (ladies’ B team) or Robbie Ollman (men’s team and North Norfolk League).
Code of Conduct
We would ask that you take a few minutes to read the Club’s Code of Conduct. This is available on the Club noticeboard and our website.
Registering for BTM (British Tennis Membership)
Aylsham Tennis Club is registered with the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) and one of the benefits of affiliation is that members are able to apply for FREE British Tennis Membership (BTM). As a BTM you will receive access to offers, discounts on tournament tickets and clothing, access to the Wimbledon ballot as well as being kept up to date with the latest British tennis news. Apply for membership at www.lta.org.uk/member/.
Do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions. Details of committee members and their areas of responsibility are published on the Club’s website.
To conclude, we thank you for your membership and look forward to seeing you on court. On a final note, the Club is managed by a small group of committee members, all of whom are volunteers. If you would like to be involved in any aspect of the Club we would appreciate your assistance.
Enjoy your tennis in 2018/2019!
