New Club Tennis Event

Posted by Jane Attewell on 6 April 2018

You are invited to take part in an inclusive, summer long tennis event which is open to ALL members, whatever your age and ability.  It is a great opportunity to meet and play other members.

The event is called 'Game, Set & Swap'!

So how does it work?

  • Players enter the event with a doubles partner of their choice (mixed or same sex) and come up with a team name for their pair.
  • Players will be notified of their first match opponents and then arrange a date & time to play (contact details will be made available.) A deadline for the matches in each stage will be given by the organiser to ensure the event keeps moving forward.
  • Round Robin Stage One -The foursome play ONE set with a tie break at 6 all if necessary. Each player in the four records their own individual score in that set on the score sheet provided (available in the club hut)  – so say Joe partners Bill and they win the set 6-4, both Joe & Bill score 6 each and both record their score.
  • Then, and here’s the twist, all players rotate one place, so that players who were on opposing sides, now play a new set together as a partnership – one set with tie break if needed as before.
  • After this 2nd set, individual scores are recorded again. Players rotate one more time and play a third set again with tie break if needed. Once again, at the end of the set, individual scores are recorded.
  • That is the group’s first round match over. EACH INDIVIDUAL’S total score of games won throughout the 3 sets is recorded on the score sheet, verified and signed by all four players before being posted in the letterbox INSIDE the club hut immediately after the match.
  • Once the initial match is over, players part company with their “team mate”, for the time being, and are placed into a new four by the event organiser for Stage 2. The 4 arrange when to play (again before a given deadline) and off they go again, same format, same rules, crucially making sure to record and submit the scores.
  • Play continues in this way over the summer months until everyone has played everyone else in the event and no one has played anybody else more than once ....hopefully!
  • Once all the matches have been played, the scores of both players in the original doubles team are combined, to give them an overall “team” total.
  • Players then proceed to a Final Flurry, an afternoon tennis with a difference/social event in September (details & date to be announced). After the Final Flurry there will be a “Bring a Plate of Food”, buffet and prize presentation, to which ALL entrants are welcome.
  • As it is a fund raiser, we are asking for a one off entry fee of a minimum of £8 PER adult & £3 PER 16 yrs and under (see entry form for further details.) Should anyone wish to contribute a little more, your donation would be most gratefully received and put into the fund raising pot.
  • Payment is by CHEQUE ONLY please to Aylsham Tennis Club.
